The man was going to do it for the jihad. The plan was to attack the Pentagon with remote control planes packed with explosives. Fortunately, he was caught before the plot left the ground.

Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham, Massachusetts. Ferdaus requested a number of items through who he thought was a trustworthy contact, but it turned out to be undercover federal agents. The items allegedly requested included grenades, six machine guns and 24 pounds of C-4 explosive.

The suspect claimed America was evil. He learned much of this from Muslim jihadi websites and videos. He began planning his Islamic jihad against the U.S. in early 2010.

His search for al-Qaeda led him to undercover federal agents posing as members of al-Qaeda.

As a good Muslim, Ferdaus wanted to deal a psychological blow to the "enemies of Allah" by hitting the Pentagon, which he called "head and heart of the snake." Asked at one point about possibly killing women and children, Ferdaus allegedly said all unbelievers of Islam were his enemies.

Keying in on the threat of homegrown terrorists, federal agencies have stopped a number of potential attacks against the U.S. since 9/11. al-Qaeda is attempting to radicalize individuals or small groups already in the country because of the significant advantages.
