Religious Hiring To Be Regulated By Government

Obama's anti-religion agenda has taken another step. The Obama administration, through the Department of Justice, is asking the Supreme Court to eliminate a long-standing legal precedent that protects religious organizations from government regulations.

A teacher sued after being let go due to health problems keeping her from returning to work.

The church argued that her job was not covered by employment law because it was religious and so shielded from federal regulation under the traditional “ministerial exception,” thus protecting the church regarding religious employees’ exemption from secular employment law.

The exemption comes from the Establishment Clause of the Constitution, which was designed to shield religious institutions from government regulation.

The Obama administration’s legal brief, already submitted to the Supreme Court, asks the court to eliminate this ministerial exemption, and to make all but a few core religious jobs subject to secular employment law.

Yet another attempt to allow the government to control the church. If this Pandora's Box is opened, there will be no limit to where the government interferes with church operations.
